NH Small Claims is a volunteer project started by a group of Dartmouth College students who wanted to make New Hampshire's small claims court process easier to understand for people representing themselves. We are not attorneys, and nothing on this site is legal advice — our goal is simply to make the process less confusing for the people going through it, whether they're filing a claim or responding to one.
Why we built this
Small claims court is designed to be usable without a lawyer, but the process still isn’t always easy to navigate on your own. As Dartmouth students, we saw an opportunity to put research and organizing skills to use on something with a direct, practical benefit for our neighbors across New Hampshire — plain-language information, in one place, kept up to date.
